Cette démo à connu un accouchement difficile. Elle fut préparée pour la "State of the Art" au mois de décembre 2002 à Lille, mais pour de nombreuses raisons (organisation, pannes de courant, bugs, ...) la version présentée à la SOTA était particulièrement "pas terrible". Tellement pas terrible en fait que la démo à planté dès la fin du premier vrai effet de la démo :(

La démo est tout de même arrivée première, vu qu'il n'y avait pas d'autre concurent dans la catégorie OldSkool demo. Mais bon, nous avions tout de même un certain sentiment d'énervement vu le nombre de personnes ayant participé (regardez la liste des crédits sur les photos d'écran !), le nombre d'effets qui n'avaient pas été inclus dans la démo, et le temps que cela avait pris pour les faire. Tout le monde étant bien sur les nerfs, nous sommes partis fêter Noël et le jour de l'an chacun de notre coté...

This demo has been quite hard to make. It was initially planed for the "State of the Art" demo party in december 2002 in Lille, but due to numerous reasons (bad organisation, power cuts, bugs, ...) the version we presented at the SOTA was really bad. So bad indeed that the demo crashed at the end of the first real effect :(

Arrive Janvier. Twilighte et moi avions pris nos tickets pour l'Alternative Party 4 ayant lieu à Helsinki en Finlande. Après négociation avec Setok, l'un des organisateurs, nous arrivons à la conclusion que nous pouvons représenter la démo en compétition à condition qu'il y ait au moins 50% de nouveau contenu. Après un bref exament de la situation, nous savons que si nous changeons la musique (qui dans la version SOTA est rippé de la démo Assembly 2002), l'écran de titre de la démo, rajoutons les effets manquants (canards, plasma, metaballs, cube 3D), optimisons et déboggons ce qui crashe, et enfin fassions du nettoyage et du réglage alors nous aurions largement nos 50% de nouveauté...

Arrive enfin le 9 janvier, je peut prendre l'avion pour Helsinki avec mon Pravetz 8D, mon MicroDisc, mon PC Portable et la version (quasi) finale de la démo avec moi, bonheur supprème que de ne pas avoir à coder et débogger sur place une démo. Le seul problème restant à négocier était de pouvoir montrer la démo sur un émulateur vu que l'on n'arrive toujours pas à brancher les Orics sur des vidéo projecteurs. Ce problème finit par être résolu après que Setok ait vu la démo tourner sur la véritable machine puis sur l'émulateur et constate qu'il est dur de voir la différence entre les deux. Le reste de l'histoire est connu: la démo fu présentée parmis 25 autres, et nous sommes arrivés seconds derrière une démo VIC 20 de Viznut. Mais bon, il vaut mieux être second sur 25 que premier tout seul non ???

Came january. Twilighte and me already had out flight tickets for the Alternative Party 4, in Helsinki, Finland. After some negociation with one of the party organizers, Setok, we manage to get the authorization to represent the demo if we have at least 50% of new content in it. After some evaluation of the situation we concluded that by changing the music (the SOTA version had the same music than the Assembly 2002 invtro !) and the title screen, adding missing effects (ducks, plasma, metaballs, 3D cube), make some optimizing and debugging, and finally clean up and tune the effects we would easily have more than 50% of new things...

It's now the 9 of january. I can take my plane for Helsinki with my Pravetz 8D, Microdic, Laptop computer, and the (nearly) final version of the demo. The feeling you had when you know that you will not have to stay alone behind your computer screen to code and debug things on the party place is quite exhilarating. The only remaining problem is to negociate with organizer in order to get them allow the projection of the demo using an emulator since noone so far ever manage to output an oric picture on a video projector. We finaly manage to get past this problem by showing Setok the demo on the real machine and then on the emulator and get him aggree on the fact there are not that much differences. The end of the story is well known: the demo has been shown among 25 other demos, and we reached the second place behind a VIC 20 demo made by Viznut. But well, I prefer to be second among 25 than first alone.
